The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is an independent, non-profit organization, whose mission is to produce telecommunications standards for today and for the future. ETSI's Members determine the Institute's work programme, allocate resources and approve its deliverables. As a result, ETSI's activities are closely aligned with market needs and there is wide acceptance of its products.

ETSI's standards are built on consensus.

The Benefits of Standardization:

  • enable interoperability
  • encourages innovation, fosters enterprise and opens up new markets
  • creates trust and confidence in products
  • expands the market, brings down costs and increases competition
  • helps prevent the duplication of effort

Standardization is an essential requirement for the open exchange of information; without it, the network simply will not work.
